UK Inflation Hits Five-Month High Amid Fuel Price Surge
UK inflation rose to its highest level in five months, reaching 3.1% in August, driven by surging fuel costs and airfares.
The Office for National Statistics reported that consumer price index accelerated from 2.9% in July, with the global Middle East conflict disrupting crude supplies and pushing energy prices up 23% compared to last year.
Rising crude oil and petrol prices increased both raw material costs and goods leaving factories, said Grant Fitzner, chief economist at the ONS.
Economic analysts predict that energy market dynamics will drive national inflation toward a peak early next year, with food and beverage inflation remaining stable at 1.3%.
Independent fuel station owners reported severe operational strain due to volatile daily wholesale costs, with some facing direct cash flow pressures and narrow margins per liter sold.
