UK Inflation Hits Five-Month High Amid Global Uncertainty
The UK's inflation rate has risen to a five-month high of 3.1% in August, according to official figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). This increase is largely due to higher fuel prices and airfares, which have pushed up the cost-of-living for Britons.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham has assured that the Government will not take risks with people's living standards in the upcoming Budget. He stressed that the economy remains resilient, but acknowledged the challenges posed by global uncertainty, particularly the war in the Middle East.
The ONS reported that surging fuel prices drove inflation higher again last month, with motor fuels contributing significantly to the rise. The average price of petrol rose by 9.1 pence per litre between July and August, while diesel increased by 14.2 pence per litre.
