UK Inflation Hits Five-Month High as Motor Fuel Prices Soar 23%

UK households are facing rising living costs, with inflation reaching its highest level in five months. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported that UK inflation hit a high of 10.7% in the year to August.

Motor fuel prices have increased by 23% compared to last year, causing concern among drivers. In Ystradowen, Vale of Glamorgan, residents spoke out about the rising costs, with one driver saying 'prices are ridiculous'. Another resident stated that they were 'driving less but higher prices were to be expected, given the world as it is'.

Welsh government minister Sioned Williams called for a system of cheaper energy prices for low-income households, known as social tariffs. The UK government has already cut VAT on electricity bills from October and removed £150 from bills earlier this year.
