UK Pound Slips Despite Surprise Inflation Rise
The British pound slid against other major currencies in the European session on Wednesday, despite a key inflation report. The U.K. Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to a five-month high in August due to higher motor fuel prices.
Data from the Office for National Statistics showed that inflation advanced to 3.1 percent from 2.9 percent in July. This rate met expectations, according to the report.
