UK Shop Price Inflation Slows to 1.4% in September
UK shop price inflation eased to 1.4% in September from 1.5% in August, according to data published by the British Retail Consortium (BRC).
The BRC attributed the slowdown to retailers maintaining promotions and absorbing rising costs despite pressures linked to the Iran war.
Food inflation fell to 2.5% from 2.8%, with promotions lowering meat and dairy prices. Poor harvests across Europe pushed up fruit prices, while elevated global commodity prices kept chocolate and confectionery costs high.
Non-food inflation declined to 0.8% from 0.9%, with the BRC citing strong discounting of back-to-school essentials as a contributing factor.
