Financial institutions in Ukraine brought in foreign currency notes worth $5.48 billion during the first six months of 2026, representing an 18% decline compared to the same period a year earlier.

The majority of these imports consisted of U.S. dollars ($3.16 billion) and euros ($2.26 billion), with Polish zloty making up only 0.2% of total imports at $10.4 million.

The National Bank of Ukraine's decision to ease certain restrictions in August, including raising the monthly cap for individuals buying non-cash foreign currency to 200,000 hryvnias, may have contributed to this trend.
