Unauthorized Immigration Boosts US Economy, Study Finds
A new study by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas has shed light on the economic impacts of unauthorized immigration in the US. The study, which analyzed data from 2021 to 2025, found that an increase in unauthorized immigrants led to a rise in total employment, with jobs being created or filled by these individuals. This is a positive finding, as it suggests that unauthorized immigrants are not taking jobs away from existing workers.
The study also found that wages were not reduced as a result of the influx of unauthorized immigrants. This is likely because these immigrants took new or unfilled jobs, rather than competing with existing workers for positions. Additionally, the report noted that public revenues increased due to the filling of new or vacant jobs.
However, there was also a negative finding: home prices and rents increased during the surge in unauthorized immigration. This is not surprising, as the supply of residential units is limited, and when new households are added to the population, competition for existing units increases, leading to higher prices.
