US Bond Yields Hit Highest Level Since 2007 Amid Inflation Worries

The US Treasury bond yields have reached their highest level since 2007 due to concerns over inflation and the country's growing national debt. The yield on the 30-year US Treasury climbed to 5.34% before pulling back, while the 10-year US Treasury note currently stands at 4.71%, up from 3.94% before the first US-Israel strikes on Iran in late February.

Fiona Cincotta, an analyst at Forex.com, stated that 'with oil rising towards $90 a barrel, investors are increasingly concerned about the possibility of a more prolonged inflation shock.' Analysts believe that elevated inflation is expected to persist, leading bond investors to demand higher yields to compensate for the value eroded over the life of the debt holding.

The latest rise in yields follows the Federal Reserve's decision on July 29 to keep interest rates unchanged despite elevated inflation. Market watchers pointed out a contradiction between the Fed's decision and the tough rhetoric on inflation by Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, which may have contributed to the increase in yields.
