US Core Inflation Holds Steady at 3% as Dollar Falls
The US core Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) inflation rate remained unchanged at 3% in August, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis. This reading came in below market expectations of 3.3%. The core PCE Price Index is the Federal Reserve's preferred measure of inflation.
The PCE Price Index and the core PCE Price Index both increased by 0.3% and 0.2%, respectively, on a monthly basis. Personal Income rose by 0.2% in August, while Personal Spending expanded by 0.9%. The US Dollar came under selling pressure following the release of the data.
