US Data Releases and West Asia Tensions Keep Gold Volatile
Market participants are shifting their focus to upcoming US data releases, including consumer confidence, GDP, and PCE inflation readings, which may impact gold and silver prices. Analysts expect volatility to remain elevated as the market closely watches these indicators.
The US-Iran standoff is also a concern for commodity markets, with oil supplies from Saudi Arabia and Iraq improving availability this month. Higher long-term yields in the US 10-year Treasury have climbed to their highest since 2007, potentially denting demand for gold and silver.
Gold futures on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) fell by Rs 3,500 or nearly 2.3% last week to settle at Rs 1.5 lakh per 10 grams. Silver futures declined by Rs 6,907 or 3% to Rs 2.34 per kilogram.
The next big test for gold will be the US jobs report, with a stronger reading potentially reinforcing rate-hike bets and putting pressure on prices.
