US Dollar Index Surges After Federal Reserve's Hawkish Rate Hike
The US dollar index surged to a six-week high after the Federal Reserve's hawkish rate hike, but analysts are uncertain whether rates will continue to rise in 2027. The Fed raised interest rates for the first time since July 2023, with the federal funds rate expected to reach 4.1% by year-end.
Despite short-term momentum favoring bullish bets on the US dollar, analysts maintain a more macro-oriented view: the current tightening cycle is far less aggressive than in 2022, and it remains uncertain whether the Federal Reserve will continue raising rates in 2027.
The dollar's short-term strength is more of a corrective rally rather than a trend reversal. If subsequent inflation data fail to confirm the need for further tightening or if expectations of rate hikes in October and December are dashed, the dollar's upside will be constrained.
