US Dollar Strength Over Australian Dollar Not Necessarily a Measure of Economic Superiority
The US dollar is currently stronger than the Australian dollar in nominal exchange-rate terms. However, this does not necessarily mean that the US economy is proportionally stronger than Australia's.
Exchange rates are relative market prices and do not directly measure economic strength. The AUD/USD exchange rate has been below parity, meaning A$1 buys less than US$1, but this does not indicate a 28% weakness in the Australian economy compared to the US.
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) and the Federal Reserve are key players in determining the AUD/USD exchange rate. Expectations of tighter RBA policy or higher Australian interest rates can support the AUD, while expectations of monetary easing can put pressure on the currency.
