US Dollar Strengthens Amid Rising Bond Yields and Hawkish Fed Stance
The US Dollar has been gaining strength against its peers as bond yields continue to rise. The rally in US Treasury Yields is largely driven by expectations of more interest rate hikes from the Federal Reserve, particularly with inflation remaining a major concern for policymakers.
According to analysts at ING, elevated energy prices and the belief that the Fed will tighten policy and keep interest rates higher for longer have pushed US borrowing costs above 5%. The CME FedWatch tool indicates an almost 58% chance of rate hikes in both remaining policy meetings this year.
Fed officials, including Williams, have been signaling their hawkish stance on inflation. In a recent speech, Williams emphasized the 'remarkable resilience' in the US economy and expressed concerns about inflation risks, further supporting the Dollar's gains.
