US Dollar Surges Against Swiss Franc Amid Hawkish Fed Expectations
The USD/CHF currency pair surged 0.52% on August 20, reaching $0.80075 as the US dollar recovered from sharp selling in the previous session.
The uptick was driven by a hawkish repricing of Federal Reserve rate expectations and widening short-term yield differentials, which reinforced demand for US Treasury securities relative to European sovereign debt.
The Swiss franc came under pressure due to its dovish monetary policy stance, with the Swiss National Bank maintaining its policy benchmark at zero percent and signaling an extended pause.
Escalating geopolitical risks in the Middle East and rising energy prices also bolstered global demand for the US dollar, which outperformed the franc as a safe-haven asset.
