US Economic Reports to Provide Clues on Inflation and Job Market
Wall Street is gearing up for a busy week, with key updates on inflation, employment, and consumer confidence. The reports could provide valuable insights into how consumers are coping with higher prices across various products and services.
The Conference Board's consumer confidence survey for September will be released on Tuesday, which has shown shaky confidence from consumers throughout the year. In August, the survey slipped to its lowest level in seven months.
On Wednesday, the U.S. will release the personal consumption expenditures price index (PCE) for August, a closely monitored inflation report by Wall Street and the Federal Reserve. The PCE is above 3%, exceeding the central bank's target rate of 2%. High gasoline prices have contributed to this inflation, affecting household budgets and consumer confidence.
The U.S. war with Iran has disrupted global oil supplies since late February, directly impacting gasoline prices. Higher fuel costs also make shipping more expensive, leading to increased prices for goods like food and clothing. The monthly employment report for September will be released on Friday, which has shown resilience in the jobs market but is starting to show signs of stress.
