US Economy Adds Just 29,000 Jobs in September Amid Inflation Concerns
The US economy added only 29,000 jobs in September, according to new data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). This is a significant slowdown from August's 162,000 job additions and July's revised loss of 10,000 jobs. The unemployment rate also ticked up slightly to 4.2 percent.
The BLS revised its previous estimates for July and August, showing the economy lost 10,000 jobs in July and added 133,000 in August. This is a significant downward revision from the initial reports of 31,000 and 21,000 job additions in June and July, respectively.
Despite these numbers, Fed Chair Kevin Warsh has stated that the unemployment rate is 'running consistent with full employment.' He emphasized the importance of price stability in achieving sustainable economic growth. Multiple FOMC officials have forecasted future rate hikes while noting they will continue to monitor incoming economic data.
