US Hiring Remains Strong as Economy Powers Ahead
US hiring is expected to remain strong in September as economic momentum builds. According to economists, nonfarm payrolls will rise by about 90,000, following a surge of 100,000 in the prior month.
The unemployment rate is forecast to remain at a one-year low of 4.1%. The catalyst for the recent increase in hiring has been the economy itself, with demand metrics showing an extended and feverish pace of capital spending and improved consumer spending.
These strong economic indicators have allowed the Federal Reserve to shift its focus from job growth to inflation control. A separate report on Wednesday is expected to show a 0.5% increase in August personal spending, which would be the largest advance in over a year.
