US-Iran Talks and Fed Comments Send Gold Prices Plummeting
Gold prices plummeted as investors weighed in on the progress of US-Iran talks and comments from Federal Reserve officials about interest rates. The bullion price dropped below $4,300 an ounce, while the US dollar gauge rose to its highest level since July.
Federal Reserve Governor Michael Barr indicated that further interest rate increases are likely needed to bring inflation back in line with the central bank's 2% target.
The recent data showed a strong increase in US business activity, with manufacturers and service providers reporting robust demand, new orders, and employment. However, this growth may not be enough to offset the effects of elevated energy prices on inflation.
