US, Japan Intervene in Currency Market, PM Set for Earthquake Visit
The United States and Japan jointly intervened in the currency market for the first time in 15 years, as Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said that the move was made to counter excessive volatility and disorderly movements of the Japanese yen. The intervention is a result of a joint statement issued by the U.S.-Japan Finance Ministers' Joint Statement in September 2025.
The Prime Minister of Japan, Sanae Takaichi, is scheduled to visit Kumamoto Prefecture on Monday to assess local challenges and requests following a magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck the area nearly a week earlier.
