US Job Growth Expected to Slow in September Amid Global Headwinds
The US job market is expected to slow in September, according to economists. The unemployment rate is forecasted to remain steady at 4.1% for a third consecutive month. This moderation comes after a surprise increase in nonfarm payrolls in August, which was partly attributed to seasonal fluctuations in the data.
Joe Brusuelas, chief economist at RSM, expects a reaffirmation of the 'low-hire, low-fire' American labor market. He believes there will be no significant changes that would cause the Federal Reserve to alter its bias towards further interest rate hikes this year.
Economists predict nonfarm payrolls will increase by 90,000 in September, down from August's surge of 162,000 jobs. The Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics is set to release its employment report on Friday.
