US Labor Market Slows Down with Disappointing Nonfarm Payrolls
The US Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics released its September nonfarm payrolls data on October 2. The numbers showed a significant underperformance, as the market had forecasted an increase of 89,000 jobs.
However, the actual number came in at 29,000, a substantial deviation from expectations. This figure marks one of the lowest increases in recent months, sparking concerns about the labor market's momentum.
The unemployment rate also saw a slight uptick, increasing to 4.2% - 0.1 percentage point higher than the forecasted 4.1%. Average hourly earnings rose by just 0.1%, falling short of the predicted 0.3% increase.
