US Sanctions Disrupt Middle East Air Travel, Spark Regional Tensions
The United States has imposed new sanctions on Iranian airlines, threatening foreign airports and companies that provide services to them with exclusion from the US dollar financial system.
Iran's Supreme National Security Council secretary, Mohsen Rezaei, warned neighboring countries against joining what he called the US campaign against Iran's air links.
The sanctions have already led several countries to suspend or restrict Iranian flights, including the United Arab Emirates, Georgia, and Azerbaijan. Flights to Oman and Baghdad were also disrupted.
