US Sets Deadline for Shutting Down Iranian Airlines
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has warned that Iranian airlines will be effectively shut out of international operations from September 23rd. This move is part of the Trump administration's efforts to intensify economic pressure on Tehran.
Bessent stated that Washington would target foreign companies and airports that provide essential services to Iranian carriers, including fuel suppliers, ground-service providers, and ticketing companies.
Companies that continue to service Iranian airlines will face secondary sanctions and lose access to the US dollar financial system. Bessent also mentioned that three banks, including the second-largest bank in Egypt and a Turkish bank, have been sanctioned for allegedly funneling over $1.8 billion into the Iranian regime.
