US States' Economies Match Major World Powers
The economies of four U.S. states, California, Texas, New York, and Florida, would each qualify as G20-sized economies if they were independent countries.
According to a map paired with data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis and the IMF's World Economic Outlook, these four states have large economies that are comparable in size to major world powers. California has a $4.3 trillion economy, making it closest to the United Kingdom in terms of nominal GDP. Texas has a $2.9 trillion economy, placing it alongside Russia.
New York's economy is roughly equivalent to Canada's at $2.5 trillion, while Florida's economy is comparable to Australia's at $1.8 trillion. The nation's capital, Washington D.C., has a nearly $200 billion GDP, putting it closest to Ukraine.
