The US stock market continued its downward trend on Tuesday, with all three major indices - Nasdaq, S&P 500, and Dow Jones Industrial Average - closing in the red. The tech-heavy NASDAQ Composite led the decline, falling 0.60 percent to settle at 26,445.45.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index dropped 24.92 points, or 0.32 percent, to close at 7,728.19, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 184.07 points, a decline of 0.34 percent, finishing the day at 53,791.91.

Dennis Follmer, chief investment officer at Montis Financial, predicted that the upcoming CPI report would further support the case for the Federal Reserve to hold interest rates steady rather than hiking them, despite last Friday's weak jobs report.
