US Stocks Plummet as Strong Jobs Data Boosts Fed Rate Hike Odds

The US stock market experienced a broad decline on Friday following the release of strong August employment data. This data, which showed an increase in payrolls by 162,000 positions, significantly exceeded the 55,000 consensus forecast from economists.

As a result, the market-implied probability of a Federal Reserve rate increase in September surged to 58%, up from 49% one day earlier. This surge in probability suggests that the Fed may tighten monetary policy sooner than expected.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by 272 points, representing a 0.5% loss, while the S&P 500 retreated 0.4% and the Nasdaq Composite decreased 0.3%. The semiconductor sector was an exception to the prevailing downward trend, with the PHLX Semiconductor Index advancing 3.4%.

Lululemon's shares plummeted 17% after management reduced both revenue and profitability projections, falling short of analyst expectations in its second quarter results.
