US Targets Global Enablers of Iran's Military Supply Chain
The US Treasury Department has targeted individuals and companies around the world accused of supporting Iran's military supply chain, as part of its Operation Economic Outcast campaign. The move aims to disrupt Iran's defense systems and further degrade its ability to reconstitute its weapons program.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the department will 'not tolerate any support to the regime' and will continue to identify and isolate those who enable Iran's military procurement efforts. Ten individuals and entities based in Iran, Hong Kong, and Pakistan were sanctioned for allegedly procuring weapons and weapon components for Iran's defense ministry.
The sanctions come as Iran's currency has fallen to a record low, with traders exchanging over 2.5 million rials to the US dollar. The rial has declined steadily since the war began on February 28, hitting its previous record low of 2.2 million to the dollar on September 2.
