US Unemployment Holds Steady Amid State-by-State Variations

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that unemployment rates fell in eight states and remained stable in the rest of the country, except for the District of Columbia. The national unemployment rate stayed at 4.1%. Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and DC experienced a significant drop of 0.2% each.

Florida, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington saw a smaller decrease of 0.1%. New Jersey and Ohio had the largest year-over-year decline in unemployment, at 1.2% and 1.1%, respectively. Ten states posted higher unemployment rates over the same period, with Connecticut leading the way at 1.0%.

The nonfarm payroll employment increased in four states: California, Wisconsin, South Carolina, and New Mexico. The largest year-over-year growth was seen in Louisiana, New Mexico, and South Carolina, all of which experienced a 1.6% increase.
