USD/CAD Breakout Gains Pace as US Front-End Rates Take Center Stage
The USD/CAD currency pair has been trending upwards for nearly two weeks, breaking out of a downtrend established in early July and surpassing its key medium- and long-term moving averages.
This move is largely attributed to the pair's increased sensitivity to US front-end rates, with the correlation between daily changes in USD/CAD and US two-year yields rising to around +0.74 over the past five sessions.
Meanwhile, Canadian economic data has started to reverse its outperformance relative to the US, which could further support the rebound in USD/CAD.
