USD/CAD Breakout Tests Key Resistance Level Amid Strong Front-End Rate Correlation
The USD/CAD pair has broken out of its downtrend established in early July, with nearly two weeks of gains taking it above key medium- and long-term moving averages. However, this bullish move is now facing a test at the 50% retracement level of the June-August bear market.
Technical analysis suggests that until this level is cleared, the current trend may be at risk of reversing. On the other hand, if the pair extends its recent gains, levels to watch on the upside include 1.4080 and 1.4118, as well as the 78.6% Fib at 1.4138.
Notably, the USD/CAD's sensitivity to US front-end rates has surged in recent days, with a correlation of +0.74 between daily changes in USD/CAD and the two-year yield.
