USD/CAD Challenges Pivotal Resistance Ahead of Fed Decision
USD/CAD has been on a sharp recovery path, bringing the pair back toward the upper bounds of the September range after rebounding from its monthly low. The near-term technical structure remains constructive, but buyers still need to confirm a breach higher to strengthen their case for a larger reversal.
The Canadian dollar is now testing a major resistance confluence with the Fed rate decision on tap, and the reaction off this threshold could determine whether the recovery develops into a larger reversal or begins to unravel. A topside breach / daily close above 1.3942/55 would be needed to suggest a more significant low is in place and validate a breakout of the late-June downtrend.
The Federal Reserve decision, set to take place in just a few hours, will likely have a significant impact on USD/CAD price action. Markets are largely priced for a 25-basis-point hike, but the updated Summary of Economic Projections (SEP), dot plot, and Chair Powell's press conference could provide clues on the monetary policy path into year-end.
