USD/JPY Consolidation Hints at Volatility Expansion
The USD/JPY currency pair is experiencing a consolidation phase, trading within a symmetrical triangle. This indicates that buyers and sellers are currently in equilibrium, poised to break out above resistance or below support, leading to increased volatility.
The nine-day EMA of 157.22 serves as an immediate barrier for the USD/JPY pair. Further resistance lies at the upper boundary of the symmetrical triangle around 158.80. Breaking above this level could trigger a bullish revival and propel the pair towards the nearly 40-year high of 163.99, reached on July 23.
On the downside, a break below the lower boundary of the symmetrical triangle at 155.60 may lead to downward pressure on the pair, potentially pushing it to test the 11-month low of 152.10. Japanese officials have signaled readiness to intervene in support of the yen, which could impact currency markets.
