USD/JPY Slumps as Inflation Data Looms and BoJ Decision Approaches
The USD/JPY pair has dropped sharply in recent weeks and is now hovering near its highest level since February. The current price of 154.17 is down from the year-to-date high of 163.96.
Investors are waiting for several key events, including the release of US consumer inflation data on Friday. A strong report is expected, with economists predicting a 3.4% rise in headline CPI and a 2.4% fall in core CPI.
The Producer Price Index (PPI) has already shown signs of rising inflation, with the headline PPI increasing to 5.4% and the core PPI falling to 4.6%. The Federal Reserve's target is 2%, and these numbers are above that mark.
In addition to the US data, traders will be watching for a potential Bank of Japan interest rate hike next week. Economists are unanimous in their prediction that the BoJ will increase rates by 25 basis points, which could help bridge the gap between US and Japanese interest rates.
