USD/JPY Stuck Between Dollar Strength and Intervention Fears
The USD/JPY pair has been experiencing mixed results in recent trading sessions. After falling by over 1% at the end of last week, it rebounded slightly this week, gaining around 0.04%. This lack of clear direction suggests that caution continues to dominate price action for the pair.
Two competing forces are contributing to this uncertainty: expectations of a more aggressive Federal Reserve supporting the dollar, and concerns about potential intervention to support the yen. The combination of these factors has limited stronger moves in either direction.
Intervention risks remain an important market theme following the coordinated action taken to support the yen at the end of July. Since then, every significant bout of yen weakness has been accompanied by growing speculation that authorities could step back into the market if depreciation becomes excessive.
