USD/JPY Volatility Continues After Coordinated Intervention
The recent coordinated intervention by Japanese and US authorities has had a significant impact on the USD/JPY exchange rate. The pair opened at 157.58 on August 3, but plummeted to a low of 155.20 after Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama confirmed joint action.
However, the pair quickly recovered and began trading above 158 by August 7, as both Japan and the US signaled readiness to intervene again. This led to a brief cap on gains before the USD/JPY surged past 158.50 following reports of potential rate hikes from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh.
The dollar's decline after last week's FOMC meeting was paused this week, with moves among major currencies largely limited to within 1% in either direction.
