USD Soars Against CHF on Strong US Inflation Data

The US Dollar (USD) has been gaining strength against the Swiss Franc (CHF), reaching levels around 0.8052 and a gain of roughly 0.47% on Wednesday.

This is largely due to hotter-than-expected US inflation data, which saw the headline US Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index rise by 0.2% month-on-month in July, exceeding forecasts and reversing June's decline.

The core PCE index also rose 0.2% month-on-month, matching forecasts but accelerating from June's increase. Annual core inflation remained at 3.3%, aligning with expectations.

Although the data suggests that the Federal Reserve may leave interest rates unchanged at its upcoming meeting, inflation remains well above the central bank's 2% target. Ongoing tensions in the Middle East are also keeping oil prices elevated, creating additional upside risks for inflation and potential tighter monetary policy later in the year.
