Vassilev Slams Proposed Tax as 'Left-Wing Measure' Threatening Business
Nikolay Vassilev, a financier and former Minister of Economy in Bulgaria, has spoken out against the proposed tax on excess profits. He claims that this measure is not aimed at reducing inflation but rather increasing government revenue.
Vassilev pointed out that previous restrictions on exporting wheat, electricity, and petroleum products were also intended to boost budget revenues, not curb inflation.
The financier described the proposal as one of the most left-wing measures in recent decades and warned that excessive taxation could drive away business and investments. He suggested that instead of raising taxes, the state should reduce its spending by 7 billion euros through administrative reforms and public sector changes.
