Venezuela Opposition Reaches Agreements with Interim Government on Judicial Reform and Frozen Funds

Venezuela's interim government and opposition have concluded their first round of talks, reaching agreements on two key areas: reforming the judiciary and accessing frozen funds at the Bank of England. The talks, which took place over several days, resulted in a joint statement highlighting commitments to initiate judicial reforms, including changes to the Organic Law governing Venezuela's top court, the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ).

The TSJ has been criticized for validating President Maduro's 2024 re-election, despite allegations of fraud and lack of transparency. The opposition hopes to overhaul other key institutions, such as the National Electoral Council.

Another crucial agreement involves seeking access to Venezuela's international reserve assets held at the Bank of England, which will aid in recovery efforts following June's devastating earthquakes that left over 6,300 people dead.
