Vietnam Eyes $14B Bilateral Trade Target with Canada
General Secretary and President To Lam recently attended a VN-Canada business roundtable in Vietnam. The event was jointly organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance and Global Affairs Canada, with Canadian Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu also in attendance.
In his welcoming remarks, Minister Sidhu emphasized that agreements signed between the two countries have created a strong foundation for trade and investment ties, opening up new opportunities for bilateral collaboration. He highlighted Canada's potential in clean and renewable energy and noted that Canadian companies have maintained long-standing links with Vietnam.
President To Lam spoke highly of the sound friendship between Vietnam and Canada, built on trust, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation. He emphasized that the Comprehensive Partnership established in 2017 has provided a favorable framework for expanding bilateral cooperation across various fields.
The Vietnamese leader noted that the significance of Vietnam-Canada relations now extends beyond the bilateral framework, citing Vietnam's growing connection with ASEAN and the Asia-Pacific region, while Canada possesses capital, technology, knowledge, management capacity, and business and financial networks integrated with North America and the global economy. He called for stronger investment ties between the two countries, particularly by connecting Canada's long-term capital with high-quality projects in Vietnam.
