Wall Street Braces for Inflation Data, Jobs Report Amid Earnings Season
This week, Wall Street will receive updates on several key economic indicators and corporate earnings reports. The first inflation reading since the Federal Reserve raised interest rates on September 16 is due out, which could influence future rate decisions. The Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) data reflects the pre-hike environment in August.
The latest Consumer Confidence Index data will provide insight into how Americans are reacting to inflation, which has been above target for five years. The index slipped in August, but consumers felt somewhat better about the labor market.
Additionally, the September jobs report is due out, following a strong hiring pace in August that was slightly higher than expected. CarMax will release its fiscal second-quarter results, which may provide insight into pricing pressure amid tariffs and trade tensions.
Tourism and food companies, as well as Micron Technology and Accenture, are also set to report their earnings. Micron's performance is seen as a proxy for the health of the data center boom and key drivers of tech sector earnings growth.
