Wānaka Housing Scheme Gets Fast-Track Approval
The Mt Iron Junction Housing Scheme, near Wānaka, has been granted fast-track approval by the Government. This development will bring 250 new homes to the area, along with a childcare centre and two recreational reserves. The site covers 5.98 hectares.
Infrastructure Minister Chris Bishop said that this is exactly what fast-track is designed to do, get projects moving that deliver more homes, jobs, and economic opportunities for New Zealanders.
The scheme will provide a range of housing options, including one, two, and three-bedroom homes. Thirteen of the new homes will be provided to the Queenstown Lakes Community Housing Trust for affordable housing.
According to the Minister, the project is predicted to contribute $86 million to the local economy, supporting jobs both during construction and once the development is complete.
