Warsh Credibility Crisis: Bank of America Warns of Inflation Risk

Bank of America has raised concerns about the credibility of Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh, who has only been in office for a few months. In a recent message, the bank expressed worry that Warsh's relaxed attitude towards inflation is making investors nervous and leading to increased uncertainty. Markets now expect more inflation risk and higher uncertainty.

The Fed recently held its policy rate unchanged at 9-3, with Warsh stating that there would be no rate hikes or cuts. However, his press conference was seen as 'dovish' by the markets, failing to provide any clear guidance on future actions. As a result, investors have priced in higher inflation breakevens and risk premia.

Employ America executive director Skanda Amarnath has also expressed concern about Warsh's credibility, stating that he hyped rate hikes for July before backing out. The committee will likely compensate with more hikes in 2026, making three hikes the base case for the rest of the year.
