Warsh's Hawkish Tone Boosts Dollar, Raises Hike Expectations

The recent Jackson Hole speech by Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh has led to increased expectations of further rate hikes, causing bond yields to surge and the US dollar to rise.

Bond yields jumped by their largest amount in two decades following Warsh's commitment to fighting inflation at the Fed. The sharp increase in energy prices added to concerns that inflation could remain high, complicating the outlook for central banks already considering higher interest rates.

The US dollar gained strength as investors became more cautious and sought safe-haven assets, but its gains were short-lived due to a sharp fall in USD/JPY later in the week. The greenback's volatility was attributed to positioning and market nerves rather than official intervention.
