Warsh's Speech Could Decide Fate of Bitcoin Rally
Bitcoin's price surge has reached new heights, crossing above $80,000 on Thursday. This recent rally follows a sharp advance over the past 10 days and is being closely watched by investors who are awaiting the speech of Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh at the Jackson Hole symposium. The Treasury Department has taken steps to ease pressure on longer-term government bonds, which has contributed to Bitcoin's growth.
The Fed has been grappling with high inflation rates, with the personal consumption expenditures price index rising 3.7% from a year earlier in July and core PCE increasing 3.3%. Several policymakers are warning that inflation remains too high, and Kansas City Fed President Jeffrey Schmid stated that rates may not be restrictive enough.
Markets have been pricing a 34% probability of a September rate increase, down from higher levels following Wednesday's inflation report. Warsh has adopted a more cautious approach to forward guidance, leaving markets uncertain about his next move. Bitcoin's recent rise has coincided with Treasury intervention in the bond market, which Hashdex Chief Investment Officer Samir Kerbage attributed to global liquidity and longer-term yields.
The Fed's next policy meeting is scheduled for September 15-16, and investors are eagerly awaiting Warsh's speech on Friday. The 30-year Treasury yield recently reached a 19-year high, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the economy and Bitcoin's future.
