Winter Sun Destinations: Where Your Money Goes Furthest
As autumn begins, winter travel prices are already being considered. A new cost barometer compared 24 popular destinations based on everyday tourist expenses. The comparison included eight items: coffee, local beer, soft drink, glass of wine, water, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a three-course dinner for two with wine.
Cape Town and Mombasa topped the list in terms of value, while among European options, the Algarve, Costa del Sol, and Tenerife fared best. In Cape Town, the basket cost just over £58, in Mombasa less than £64, and in the Algarve around £82.
However, it's essential to note that this list is not a complete travel budget. It doesn't include airfare, accommodation, local transport, insurance, excursions, or seasonal surcharges. Prices are converted to the pound sterling exchange rate in September.
