Won-Dollar Volatility Continues Amid Market Uncertainty
The won-dollar exchange rate has fluctuated significantly in recent months due to various factors. In early June, it reached as high as 1561.5 won per dollar during night trading and has since stabilized around 1400 won.
This volatility is attributed to the sale of dollars by SK Hynix ahead of its semiconductor corporate tax payments, the Bank of Korea's rate hike, and the $26.5 billion ADR procurement funds used by the company.
However, experts warn that if US Federal Reserve expectations of a rate hike revive, the exchange rate could rise back to around 1500 won per dollar.
