Won Surges Past 1,380 Against Dollar Amid Semiconductor Boost
The South Korean won has surged against the US dollar to a range of 1,380 for the first time in 11 months.
This significant appreciation is due to steady dollar selling by export companies, particularly those in the semiconductor industry, as well as falling U.S. long-term yields.
According to market participants, negotiation strategies have shifted from traditional month-end concentration to constant, distributed selling, creating a structural condition where dollar supply exceeds demand and underpinning the won's strength.
