Yen Rises Amid Concerns Over Currency Weakness
The Japanese yen is experiencing its best day in almost three weeks as officials discuss the problems tied to a weak currency. The currency strengthened by as much as 1.2% against the US dollar, reaching 156.94 per dollar last Friday.
This outperformance comes after Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi met with US President Donald Trump and stated that an undervalued currency is 'problematic'. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also discussed the desirability of a strong yen with Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama.
