Yen Strengthens Amid Pause in US-Iran Tensions and Falling Oil Prices

The Japanese Yen strengthened against major peers on Tuesday after reports emerged of a temporary halt in hostilities between the US and Iran. The move reduced geopolitical risk, causing investors to rotate into the Yen as a safe-haven currency.

The drop in oil prices was a key driver of the Yen's gain, with Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures falling as the prospect of de-escalation in the Middle East reduced the immediate risk premium on energy supplies.

As a result, the Canadian Dollar and Norwegian Krone weakened against the Yen, while the USD/JPY pair retreated as the dollar lost ground. Analysts caution that the situation remains fluid and that any resumption of hostilities would likely reverse the oil price decline and diminish the Yen's safe-haven bid.
