The Japanese yen experienced a brief surge to its strongest level since mid-May, reaching 157.24 per U.S. dollar on Friday in New York.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed his anticipation for meeting with Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda at the end of August during a Group of 20 meeting in North Carolina, praising Japan's economy under Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and the central bank's governor.
